REWIND gallery hours

An exhibition crated specifically for the third annual Heart of Midtown festival. Kingston residents earnestly exploring themes of grief, community, mental health, legacy, history, and place.

Artists include Bridget Badore, Victoria Berrios, Nova Darkstar, Gregg Evans, Lo Fenigstein, Karlie Flood, Lillian Helling, Jadin Janet, Elizabeth Knightly, Jordan Koschei, Ryan Kraus, Erica Lynch, Paula Macena, callie mackenzie, Veró MC, Isabelle munson, Lindsay Possumato, Brit Schmid, Fox Seiser, Linzi Silverman, Sasha Sun, Ari C. Torres, Sianna Van Dyke, Dana Variano, Angel, and history from the REWIND archive.

Work by 25 artists and history from the Rewind archives fill the walls of the back room of the thrift shop. Curated by Bridget Badore of Holding Space and Karlie Flood of Rewind, this exhibition explores the connections between community, mental health, grief, and Kingston History. We asked artists to submit work that fit in the spaces between these themes. Along with visual art, we received poems and collections exploring the lineage and legacies of the people in our community. These pieces are shown together, in the back of Rewind, surrounded by the history collected by generations of Floods. Historical books, photographs, and signs from another time have filled this room for years. We wanted to ground the space in the deeply personal. Symbols of home, representations of memories, fantasies for or futures, and calls to generations before fill the small room in the back of Rewind for his year’s Heart of Midtown.

Since closing Holding Space’s location at 34 Broadway almost exactly one year ago, the folks behind Rewind have been dreaming of collaborating with Bridget in the space. Heart of Midtown felt like the perfect opportunity to make that happen, honoring the shared similarities in their own relationships to grief and mental health, looking for signs in every rainbow and garden, building a map of glimmers leading themselves back to their own selves.

Heart of Midtown

Check ot the HOLDING SPACE x REWIND connnity art gallery in the back of REWIND KINGSTON for Heart of Midtown!

The Annual Heart of Midtown Festival is a day dedicated to community, music, and mental health awareness. With two stages of live music, numerous organizations providing resources, and free wellness activities, this event will create a supportive atmosphere for young people in Kingston. As part of our Go All In for Mental Health Music campaign, our goal is to raise awareness of the mental health crisis impacting our youth and to build a strong supportive community. The event will provide information on mental health, share resources and services available locally, and engage our youth through music and activities.
