💌 LOVE LETTERS TO KINGSTON 💌

Holding Space presents: “Love Letters to Kingston,” a curated group art show in the Studio in the back of Camp Kingston (36 St James St, Kingston, NY 12401)

To Kingston with love,

What do you love about Kingston? What makes you want to stay here? What do you love about the people you’ve met here? The places you’ve been? Where are the receipts your heart has collected? How has Kingston held you when you needed it to? What do you want to see more of in your community? Art submissions can as literal or as abstract as you like. You can submit a literal love letter, something specific to Kingston or your relationship to Kingston, or if you’re from Kingston, work made by you or work informed by your identity can also function as a love letter to the place you live.

Love letters, like art, can be anything:
photographs of your favorite street corners of Kingston, textiles dyed with plants from your garden, a protest sign, a poem in your ancestor’s language, an envelope made of menus, lyrics scribbled on a diner napkin, a poem on a parking ticket, blind contour drawings of your front door, a playlist from your lover, a drawing of the potted plant your first friend gave you, pictures of the light hitting your apartment when you first moved in, a sketch of your favorite Kingston memory, a map of places where you’ve kissed your crush, a collection of stamps from your grandparents letters, inks made with lichen found on a mushroom walk, a call to organize your building, a patchwork of vintage handkerchiefs from thrift stores in town, snapshots from the concert that changed your life, cyanotypes made in your backyard, a recipe from the first dinner you hosted, the deed from the house that’s been in your family for generations, photographs of your elders before urban renewal, a painted sign of your favorite Q'eqchi' phrase, a quilt made with your community, a collage made with your neighbor, a wish for what it could have been, a hope for what it could be.

You get it; it could be anything. Whatever you’re thinking – it could be that. See you at the show?

With love, from Kingston.
